Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has insisted that Philippe Coutinho is not for sale and has poured cold water on Neymar’s potential return to the Nou Camp.
Brazilian forward Coutinho has struggled to make himself a regular at Barca since moving from Liverpool for £142million last January.
In his 13 months at the La Liga champions, Coutinho has only managed 29 starts in the league to spark rumours his time at the club could be coming to an end.
A return to Jurgen Klopp’s Reds had been mooted along with a switch to Manchester United .
But Bartomeu has comprehensively dismissed the idea of Coutinho departing this summer.
“Are we going to consider the sale of Coutinho? No. It’s a club bet,” Bartomeu told El Partidazo de COPE.
“He plays differently, he knows how we play, we do not want to sell Coutinho.”
Bartomeu also answered questions about a potential Neymar reunion at Barca.
The Paris Saint-Germain superstar ditched Barca for the French capital in a world record £195m but has almost constantly been linked with a return.
But despite being open to welcoming Neymar back, Bartomeu admits a deal would be unlikely and no contact has been made between the club and the player.
“I have never spoken to them, nor have the father or player called me to return to Barca. They have not called,” Bartomeu said.
“We are preparing for next season and the name of Neymar is not on the table.
“We are talking about a PSG player and I do not think that PSG want to get rid of a player like him.”
