Chelsea and Liverpool played out the game of the season so far at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
Two of the country’s heavy hitters went toe-to-toe for 90 minutes, with Liverpool snatching a 1-1 draw right at the end.
Daniel Sturridge scored an outrageous goal two minutes before time, cancelling out Eden Hazard’s superbly taken opening strike.
Both sides had their chances to win it after, but a draw was a fair reflection of the game.
Chelsea and Liverpool both remain unbeaten, but are now both behind champions Manchester City in the table after their 2-0 win against Brighton.
However, it’s unlikely City will coast to the title like last season with Chelsea and Liverpool in this kind of form.
And Blues boss Maurizio Sarri perfectly summed up the game in his post-match interview, earning the praise of Liverpool fans in the process.
The Italian said: “I had a smile at the end with Jürgen Klopp because I enjoyed it. The match was beautiful.
“I am happy with the performance and disappointed they scored in the last moments, but the draw was a deserved result.”
A real show of class from the former Napoli man.
The reaction from Liverpool fans to the comments is as positive as they come – they can’t believe they’re actually loving a Chelsea boss.
LIVERPOOL FANS REACT
Sarri is a popular guy on Merseyside it seems, what an achievement that is for a Chelsea manager.
Both he and Klopp seem to share the same vision for how football should be played and the German explained what the dressing room was like after the game.
“When he came in the dressing room, the whole dressing room was pretty much dancing,” he said.
“He had a difficult time of course but now he has a wonderful time.”
After Mohamed Salah’s disappointing display, we may be seeing more of Sturridge in the coming weeks.
